Psalm 80: 9, 12-16, 19-20
Our responsorial psalm for this week comes from Psalm 80, a communal lament in which Israel remembers how God brought his people out of Egypt like a vine and planted them in the Promised Land.
It provides a particularly fitting response to Isaiah’s Song of the Vineyard in our first reading. Isaiah announces the judgment that will leave God’s vineyard exposed and vulnerable; Psalm 80 gives voice to the people within that devastated vineyard as they plead with God to return, care for the vine he planted, and restore them.
