The commentary and reflections presented here draw from a variety of sources accumulated over many years, including homilies, books on specific topics, and dedicated bible studies from other times in my life. However, the following three resources comprise the vast majority of the material presented:
First, the practice of interweaving Scripture passages with commentary is inspired by the Liturgical Bible Study program at St. Charles Borromeo in Picayune, Mississippi.
Second, many of the thematic insights and interpretive perspectives are indebted to Dianne Bergant’s outstanding Preaching the New Lectionary series (Liturgical Press, 1999–2001).
Third, my well-loved copy of The Catholic Study Bible: New American Bible, edited by Rev. Donald Senior (Oxford University Press, College Edition, 1990) has served as a trusted reference for historical, cultural, and biblical background throughout this work.
Finally, the Navarre Bible has been an important companion in prayer, study, and reflection. Its synthesis of scriptural scholarship, patristic wisdom, and spiritual commentary has provided valuable insights into both the literal and theological dimensions of the biblical text.
