Psalm 63: 2-6, 8-9

Our responsorial psalm for this week comes from Psalm 63, a psalm attributed to David while he was in the wilderness of Judah, traditionally associated with the years when he was fleeing from Saul (1 Samuel 22-24). Separated from the sanctuary, David expresses an intense longing for God’s presence while affirming that his relationship with God sustains him even in the wilderness.

This is a fitting response to Jeremiah’s lament in the first reading, expressing the deep attachment to God that sustains his servants even through suffering and rejection.
