Psalm 23:1-6

The responsorial psalm this week comes from Psalm 23, one of the most widely recognized and beloved psalms. It portrays God through two closely related images: as a shepherd who provides for and protects his sheep, and as a generous host who welcomes and abundantly provides for his guest.

This is an especially fitting response to our first reading because it picks up both the theme of divine provision and the image of a banquet. The Lord who prepares a feast for all peoples in Isaiah is the same God whom the psalmist trusts to provide everything he needs.
