Psalm 116: 12-13, 15-18
The responsorial psalm for the Mass of the Lord’s Supper is from Psalm 116, a hymn of thanksgiving for God’s saving deliverance, which fittingly expresses the Church’s response to the gift of Christ’s self-offering in the Eucharist.
This psalm has long held a privileged place in the Church’s liturgical life. Verses 12-14, in particular, were once prayed quietly by the priest before Holy Communion in the older Roman Rite, a moment of intimate thanksgiving and humble desire to respond worthily to so great a gift.
