Introduction – Easter Triduum
The Church’s liturgical year reaches its summit not in a single day, but in a span of sacred time known as the Triduum (from a Latin root meaning “three days”). From the evening of Holy Thursday to the evening of Easter Sunday, the Church enters into one continuous celebration of the Paschal Mystery: the passion, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
Though marked by distinct liturgies across three days, the Triduum is properly understood as a single, unfolding act of worship, drawing the faithful into the heart of salvation history. Each celebration flows into the next without customary dismissals, underscoring that this is one great act of praise.
To enter the Triduum is to step into the central mystery of the faith. It is an invitation to watch, to wait, and ultimately to rejoice, as the Church accompanies Christ through the darkness of death into the glory of new life.
